В Сибири испытали новый авиационный двигатель для легких самолетов
Novosibirsk aircraft designers, together with an engine building company, have created an all-aluminum modular aircraft engine for light aircraft. The prototype was tested at the Mochishche airfield.
- The history of the engine began about six years ago, when we needed to develop a new engine for the Yak-52 aircraft, - said Ilya Zverkov, chief engine designer, professor at the Department of Aircraft and Helicopter Engineering at NSTU NETI. - It is known that we have planes, and the life of the M-14P engines, which are used on these planes, is coming to an end. Therefore, there is a need for a new engine.
Scientists analyzed the market and found out that if the engine was made only to replace the M-14P, the production volume would not be very large. This will significantly increase the cost of the new power plant. As a result, the engineers decided to assemble the power plant for the Yak-52 from two engine modules. The project was named "Module-D".
Aircraft designers created the engine using micro-arc oxidation technology. It allows you to get superhard and wear-resistant coatings on rubbing parts. "Module-D" weighs no more than 100 kilograms and at the same time produces 200 horsepower. It can be operated as an independent power plant. For example, on the Il-103 aircraft.
“Thus, the engine will not only be the first completely aluminum, but also 100 percent Russian,” promises Ilya Konovalov, a laboratory engineer at the Department of Aerohydrodynamics and an engine developer.
80 percent of the details of "Module-D" are made in the Novosibirsk region. Scientists note that the twin engine will already produce 400 horsepower. It will be suitable for use on Yak-52 or Yak-18T aircraft. The test results at the airfield showed the correctness of the chosen concept. In the near future, the designers will address the identified shortcomings.
