Types of bearings cages
A cellular structure is typical for the bearing separator. It helps to keep the rolling balls and rollers at the same level. Such structure prevents mutual friction as well as the slip of balls and rollers in a zone without load. Very often the bearing itself is a separator in which the rolling bodies are located. The inner and outer rings or cages are the surfaces of the details of this mechanism.
The variety of bearings is quite significant and therefore the separators also have a large assortment. Several main product groups can be distinguished:
- with machining - these separators are used in bearings operating at high speeds or non-inertial loads. For the manufacture of these separators brass or alloys with a steel content are used. Such separators can be detachable with axes, riveted, windowed, pectinated;
- stamped - these separators are widely used due to the simplicity of their design, they are quite compact in size. Small parameters make it possible to use such separators even in the smallest bearings. Such separators can be tape, riveted, with latches, and also window ones. For the production of stamped separators brass or sheet steel is used. It can be used in various temperature regimes without lubrication. Preferable work is with smooth start and slow stop, sharp movements with the opposite direction are not recommended;
- special - a special group of separators used in bearings for certain areas of use. For example, graphite separators, porous type devices, etc.;
- polymeric - made from special polymers, which are resistant to abrasion. These separators are windowed and with latches. Friction is minimized even with a deficit of lubricant, but there are limitations on the temperature regime (no more than 150 degrees Celsius), otherwise deformation and destruction of the bearing can occur.
